CAEA

This past weekend The Naja was in Breckenridge for the Colorado Art Education Association Fall Conference. Since this was The Naja’s first time at CAEA we didn’t really know what to expect but it was a blast! We did two demos, which went amazingly well, and had a booth in the vendor hall.

The art teachers we met were amazing! We loved you guys and can’t wait to build a better relationship with you and your schools. There were teachers that had jewelry and metals set ups in their classrooms, there were other teachers who were self taught metalsmiths and some who weren’t metalsmiths at all. It was so much fun to show you what you can do with metal and we can’t wait to show you some more in a workshop next door at the Denver School of Metal Arts, or at one of our free Saturday demos! We are even scheduling visits to go into some classrooms and check out studios and tools and do demos too!

We had so much fun at CAEA and we hope you did too! See you next year at the CAEA Fall Conference 2014!

Kathy Adams’ New Website!

Exciting news at the Naja! One of our customers, Kathy Adams, who also teaches at the Denver School of Metal Arts, just launched her website! Visit http://www.kat-jewelry.com to learn more about the artist and see her exquisite jewelry! Kathy was recently featured in the Naja’s Art Gallery and also has her work at Palace Jewelers in Santa Fe, New Mexico! Viewers that visit Kathy’s site will enjoy an overview of Adams’ work. Geometric forms interact with flowing, earthy shapes in a visual celebration of Kathy’s vision. Her pieces start as intricate drawings that she translates over to metal.

Do you have a website too? The Naja would love to see what you are working on! Send us a link to your site and we’ll do our best to get the word out! Happy metalsmithing everyone!

Colorado Art Education Association

Some folks from the Naja will be headed up to Breckenridge this Thursday for the Colorado Art Education Association Fall Conference! The Colorado Art Education Association (CAEA) wants students to receive the best possible  education and teachers to possess a deep knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning. The CAEA conference is a professional development experience for professionals in the field of visual arts education.

On Thursday, November 7 from 1 pm – 3 pm Gail Siegel and Casey McGovern will be doing a demo on rivets! Come learn about all types of rivets and cold connections. Hex screws, tube and wire rivets will be demonstrated. Also at this conference, the Naja’s Travis Ogden will be doing a demo on a red brass twisted cuff bracelet. This 2 hour demo will be held on Friday, November 8 from 9:30 am – 11:30 am. Stop by and learn this ancient twist with Travis. For examples check out the cover of this month’s Lapidary Journal Jewelry Artist Magazine. At both of these demos you will get a packet containing handouts, a certificate for re-certification credits and information on how you can gain credits that count towards your re-certification at The Denver School of Metal Arts.

If you can’t make it to one of our demos, stop by the Naja’s booth in the vendor hall! We can’t wait to see all you teachers in Breckenridge!
